My priorities for the towns of Makerfield
Bring doctors and dentists back to our towns
Time and again, I’ve heard harrowing stories from residents unable to access local healthcare or dental services. In Hindley Green and Orrell, GP services have closed, and in Bryn dentists have gone private without warning.
I will improve health and dentist provision in our communities. Supported by a Labour Government that invests in and reforms our NHS, I will make sure every person and every town can access good, local, healthcare and dentistry.
Get buses, roads, and rail working for you
Our towns have some of the worst congestion in the North West. It takes too long to get around. For decades, major road upgrades and rail projects have been promised, but Tory governments in Westminster have failed to deliver.
I will unlock better infrastructure for our towns. I will drive forward the long-overdue M58 link road to relieve traffic and improve air quality in Ashton, Winstanley and Worsley Mesnes, and Hindley.
I will make sure bus services meet the needs of local residents and work with Andy Burnham to bring local rail networks onto the Bee Network.
Make our towns feel safe again
From Platt Bridge and Abram to Worsley Mesnes and Hindley Green, anti-social behavior is preventing too many residents from going about their business. We cannot tolerate arson attacks in sports clubs, drunken thugs on high streets, or dirt bikes in local parks.
I will crack down on antisocial behaviour in our towns. I will work to ensure the Police use tough new powers I have voted for in Parliament, to crush dirt bikes and impose Respect Orders on persistent troublemakers. I will ensure every town has a local policing team who the community knows and trusts.
