ABOUT JOSH

Giving communities the power and opportunities to shape their own future.

Josh Simons is Labour’s MP for Makerfield.

Until recently, he was the Director of Labour Together, an influential Labour think-tank. He built a team of experts working with Labour’s leadership and MPs to help develop Labour’s plans to deliver for working people.

Previously, he lived in Bury, Lancashire, with his wife and kids. There, he ran for council and served as a Public Governor in the NHS Northern Care Alliance, and helped to create the Civic Power Fund, the first fund to support community organising across the UK.

Josh previously worked as a Policy Advisor for the Labour Party but quit over antisemitism under Jeremy Corbyn. He was one of the first whistle-blowers and worked with the Jewish Labour Movement on the EHRC investigation.

Josh is also an expert in data, technology, and public services. His recent book, Algorithms for the People: Democracy in the Age of AI, was based on his PhD at Harvard University. He worked as a Visiting Research Scientist in the Responsible Artificial Intelligence team at Meta and was a Technology Policy Fellow at New America.

Josh read Social and Political Sciences at St John’s College, Cambridge, and graduated top of his year.

“I will speak my mind and stand up for Makerfield.
People are disillusioned with politics. I understand why. They don't want politicians who always say what you want to hear. They are fed up of false dawns.

My experience has taught me that nobody has all the answers. You might not always agree with me, but I will always say it as I see it.”
